“New Year, New Me” the old cliché

Make this year a leap of faith. A year you finally go after what you really want, in the direction of your own dreams, along the road that leads you to what matters the most. Each year we start with such high expectations. We say the most cliche thing – “New year, new me”. We make plans, create goals, and step confidently forward. Then life gets in the way. We get stuck and wrapped up in our own little failures. Then we get distracted by other ideas that are unknown. We find ourselves spending way too much time doing meaningless things like constantly browsing through social media, or surrounding ourselves with the wrong people, rather than pushing ourselves outside of the norm. And then time passes and we find ourselves back to where we started – still in the same place.

As we begin the year, break this vicious cycle.

Don’t look at the next 365 days with last year’s mistakes already clouding your vision. Don’t assume that the decisions you’ve made have to shape what you do or where you go to next. Don’t waste positive energy defeating yourself and your mind. Instead, stand bold and tell yourself that you can, and that you will. Here’s a book that will surely enlighten you, Zen The Art of Happiness.

Make this the year, you finally make a change. One that you want for yourself, one that makes you a stronger person, one that you feel in your heart, is what you need to do. And whether that’s learning to love your reflection, walking into that gym after years, cutting out those unhealthy food, quitting drinking, letting go of toxic people, or unleashing your creativity. Do it this year, with all the confidence and strength you have.

Make this the year, you finally say goodbye to every doubt in your mind and to the people who don’t believe in you. Prove them wrong and fulfill the goals and dreams you have for this year. You’ve been ruled, by everything external. Look within, for a change, and trust the sound of your voice, the feel of your heartbeat.

Make this year, a time with your loved ones. Travel with your family – explore places and restaurants together. Go on a coffee dates with your friends and catch up with your adult life. Move forward with your partner, communicate, and plan your goals for this year. We are not getting any younger, and undeniably our time is uncertain. Therefore value every bit of it.  Live it like it’s your very last existence.

Make this year, the year you bring forth positive energy and not cling to the old, wishing for something new; not losing yourself in the mix of everyone else’s perspectives. You are the only one who can define how this new year goes. You can choose to hold onto what was or you can believe in something greater – believe in yourself.

Make this the year of faith – in God, the universe, in yourself, in the people who have been there for you since day one. Instead of doubting every step, trust that the universe has a bigger plan for you. Instead of thinking you’re not capable, not worthy – know that you are and have always been. Instead of looking everywhere for guidance, look up to your parents, your partner or the people who love you for who you are. Trust them. They’ve got your back. You will be okay.

Make this year, the year of pursuit of your passions, of real love, of confidence, health and happiness, however that manifests itself in your life. Pursue what makes your heart burn. Pursue the people and the things that make you feel alive. Pursue all that you’ve felt inadequate to have, or unable to pursue in the past. This is your year. So live it the way you want it with happiness and courage.
